The Sports Training Center for School Sports in Canoeing and Rowing of the Montemor-o-Velho School Group organized and developed the activity during the 1st and 2nd terms, on Wednesday mornings. \u201c"Introduction to Nautical Activities".<\/strong> This activity involved, in an alternating fashion, the 4th grade classes, totaling approximately 190 students, from each of the Basic Schools in the Montemor-o-Velho School Group: Tent\u00fagal Basic School, Viso Basic School, Seixo Basic School, Me\u00e3s Basic School, Arazede Basic School, Pereira Basic School, Carapinheira Basic School and Montemor Basic School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The activity's main objective was to introduce students to canoeing and rowing, while also developing their physical and coordinative abilities. Activities were promoted that contributed to improving the physical and psychological well-being of the students, taking advantage of the privileged conditions of our municipality for practicing these sports. Students also had the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills related to the transport and handling of boats (boarding and disembarking, basic techniques and maneuvers in various boats), as well as working out in the gym, with circuits designed to develop endurance and muscle strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is regrettable that a large number of classes had to carry out the activity in the municipal swimming pools, due to the adverse weather conditions experienced during the current school year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The activities were initially planned to take place at the CAR (High Performance Center of Montemor-o-Velho), providing a more enriching experience for our students. However, few classes were fortunate enough to have that opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although physical activities are inherently attractive and allow children to experience different things, we aim for this experience to be a valuable asset in children's psychomotor development, encouraging them to practice safe sports, particularly through canoeing and rowing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who knows, it might even awaken the "bug" of canoeing or rowing in future athletes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We would like to thank the teachers in charge of the classes involved and the Montemor-o-Velho City Council, both for providing transportation for our students and for making the municipal swimming pools available on days when weather conditions did not allow outdoor activities, which happened frequently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We hope that this initiative will be repeated in the next school year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
