{"id":16952,"date":"2025-02-26T13:47:10","date_gmt":"2025-02-26T13:47:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.aemontemor.pt\/?p=16952"},"modified":"2026-08-31T16:44:59","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T16:44:59","slug":"palestra-atleta-jorge-pina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aemontemor.pt\/en\/palestra-atleta-jorge-pina\/","title":{"rendered":"Lecture by athlete Jorge Pina"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On February 25th, we had the privilege of welcoming athlete Jorge Pina to the Montemor Basic and Secondary School for a talk that turned out to be a moment of sharing about a life of sporting victories, but above all, of struggle in the face of adversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.aemontemor.pt\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/PINA2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5148\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2004, during a training session in preparation for the world championship, Jorge Pina lost sight in his left eye and suffered 90% of blindness in his right eye. This adversity forced him to leave boxing and reshape his life. When the doctors gave him the news, he asked, &quot;Can I run?&quot;, and began training. He participated in the Paralympic Games in Beijing in 2008, in London in 2012, and also in the Rio de Janeiro Games in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, Jorge Pina made a point of staying connected to boxing by teaching the sport, working as...&nbsp;<em>personal trainer<\/em>. Founded in 2011 the&nbsp;<em>Jorge Pina Association,<\/em>&nbsp;where he applies his knowledge and enthusiasm for life alongside young people who, like him, want to excel, with activities in sports training, also aimed at children and young people with special health needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.aemontemor.pt\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/PINA1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5149\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The activity was developed by the Department of Special Education, with the in-person participation of secondary school students. Through his words and close dialogue with the students, we recognize an exceptional human being, whose capacity for overcoming challenges is undoubtedly an example for us all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Committed and involved in building an increasingly inclusive school, the Special Education Department continues to believe in the importance of these moments for our students&#039; learning. Examples like that of athlete Jorge Pina make us continue to believe that it is possible to aspire and dream of a better world where everyone is recognized for their effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; A word of thanks also to teacher Ant\u00f3nio Cordeiro for his contribution to the realization of this activity, as well as to the Group&#039;s Management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>I used to be blind, but now I see.
