On January 20th, 22nd, and 23rd, students from the Languages and Humanities classes at the Montemor-o-Velho School Group participated in an educational experience that led them to discover the heritage of the municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Planning, Project Coordination and Community Funding Division provided a series of guided tours to the Church of the Angels, the Montemor-o-Velho Municipal Museum, and its surroundings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explore, feel, learn\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Five field trips were conducted for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade classes, led by a Senior Technician in the field of Archaeology, Dr. Fl\u00e1vio Imperial. He provided significant learning experiences, narrating the importance of archaeological work for understanding and preserving the history and experiences of these places. At the Church of Our Lady of the Angels, next to the tomb of Diogo de Azambuja, the students listened attentively to the account of him as one of the illustrious historical figures of Montemor-o-Velho, a notable explorer and conqueror in the service of the Crown, who lived a long and glorious life, commissioned the construction of the Convent of Our Lady of the Angels, and chose this location for his burial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The learning-through-discovery experience continued with visits to the Cloister, Kitchen, where students observed artifacts from the aforementioned archaeological investigation and learned about their historical and archaeological context, Refectory, and Chapter Room, where they watched a short documentary explaining monastic life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The journey through the Municipal Museum \u2013 Pilgrimages, was surprising. There, they explored the smells, textures, and oriental influences of Fern\u00e3o Mendes Pinto's travels. To conclude the visit, the Museum, with an exhibition organized chronologically, provides a (re)discovery of the history of Montemor-o-Velho, from the first traces of human occupation to the 20th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

History is very much alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The students showed great interest and were surprised by the content presented, which provided moments of discovery, sharing, and excitement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c"Professor, shall we schedule more visits? When is the next one? We want more!"\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students don't only learn at school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Study visits are active and enriching experiences that enhance the teaching process and motivate learning in more practical contexts, also providing space for the pedagogy of attitudes, values, and the preservation of memories and heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
