“The "kids" from the Dr. Santos Bessa EB 2,3 school went to the polls again.”
As has become customary in recent years, the 3rd cycle of the EB2,3 Dr. Santos Bessa school participated in the "Kids Voting" initiative of the magazine. Vision, which, following the rules and procedures of political elections (registration, presentation of candidacies, electoral campaign, day of reflection, voting, scrutiny), aims to elect the books preferred by young people, allowing them to understand, through participation, how an electoral process unfolds.
The campaign was developed by 8th-grade students, and voter turnout was massive among students from all classes. Among the various campaign activities, highlights included the construction of a replica of Anne Frank's room by class B and the organization of a guided tour for all classes by students Ana Branco and Lara Ferraz, who were able to simultaneously promote their favorite book and recall the atrocities committed during World War II.
It was found that students' literary tastes are evolving and becoming more diverse, and that the election campaign had a significant influence on the results, with the most voted books being "Ulysses", "Joana's Moon" and "One of Us Is Lying".
This gave students a voice and increased their participation within the school, just as it encouraged a love of reading through the various shared experiences that took place. In everyone's opinion, this is definitely an activity to be repeated!
