On May 23rd, all roads led to Montemor!
As part of the celebrations for Africa Day (May 25th), the first edition of the event took place at the Montemor-o-Velho School Group. Portuguese-Guinean Dinner, promoted by the club MOV+Solidarity. This was a meeting marked by solidarity, bringing together around 130 participants willing to offer their time, learn a little about the gastronomic culture of Guinea-Bissau in harmony with our rich Portuguese culinary tradition, and contribute to a noble cause – the Soga Mission 2025.
This mission will involve three volunteers, including a teacher and a former teacher from the school group, who is also a mentor. Carlota Project, embraced by the MOV+Solidário club. In August, they will travel to Soga Island to observe the work being carried out by the association on the ground and to assess needs for future interventions.
It was a night full of flavor, fun, sharing, and solidarity. The event proved to be a true success, thanks to the dedication of a group of volunteer teachers who contributed with food, monetary donations, and above all, their time and energy. The spirit of unity was very present and made the dinner a truly magical moment.
The musical entertainment was provided by Orchestra of the Anadia School Group, who joined us in a gesture of pure generosity, offering a brilliant and much-appreciated performance.
We can only express our deepest gratitude to all who made this memorable evening possible:
To the Montemor-o-Velho School Group, by providing the necessary space and resources;
To our local partners: Intermarché in Montemor-o-Velho, Montemor-o-Velho Agricultural Cooperative, Auchan supermarket in Carapinheira, Super Bom Dia supermarket in Carapinheira, Frutorra, Mirense Potatoes, to the agricultural entrepreneur José Veríssimo and to Dr. Carla Soares;
To all those who individually contributed with appetizers, desserts, wines and much more (Carlota's teachers and friends);
To the volunteers who were involved from early on in preparing dinner, welcoming guests, and cleaning up afterwards;
And of course, to all the participants who attended and made their charitable contributions.
Words alone would be insufficient to express the gratitude the club feels for all the support received.
There's more to come next year!
