April 25th is Freedom Day.

“"On April 24th, the 9th-grade students of Arazede School presented their vision of the meaning of the April 25th, 1974 Revolution to the school community. As part of the activity, they also invited students from the 6th to 8th grades to share their opinions through a box placed next to the exhibition.".

From the analysis of the responses, it was concluded that, for 63 students, April 25th is synonymous with freedom — freedom of the human being, of thought, of expression, of women, of music, and of access to the right to vote. References also emerged to the end of the dictatorship, the Estado Novo regime, the PIDE (secret police), and censorship, as well as the beginning of a democratic regime, a new era, and the possibility of making the voice of the Portuguese people heard.

In general, the students of Arazede view April 25th (often referred to by them as the Carnation Revolution) as a revolution that should be remembered, associating it with a moment of liberation for the Portuguese people and the end of the oppression experienced during the Estado Novo regime.

As student Ana Simões, from 9th grade B, summarized: "For me, April 25th means leaving a cage to fly freely."“
