Cup and Cord Telephone
Who hasn't played with a cup telephone? As part of their Technology Education class, 5th and 6th grade students, after studying technological evolution throughout history, built a telephone using plastic cups and string. A cup and string telephone is a toy made with two disposable cups and a string (like twine or string) used to transmit sound through vibration. To make one, pierce the bottom of each cup, pass the string through each hole, and tie it to secure it. They also decorated the cups in a very creative way. Next, the students tested the telephone's functionality. One student speaks into one cup to create vibrations that are transmitted through the stretched string to the other cup, where the sound is reproduced.
