World Food Day at the Montemor and Carapinheira Basic School
As part of the celebrations for World Food Day, observed on October 16th, students in the 6th grade classes at the Montemor and Carapinheira Basic Schools developed various activities to raise awareness about the importance of a healthy diet.
The students constructed fruits and vegetables using materials of their choice, which were later displayed in the schools. In Natural Sciences classes, they analyzed the labels of some foods they usually take for snacks, in order to check the amount of sugar present in each one. Next, they weighed the amount of sugar corresponding to each food and placed it in small plastic bags.
Using the collected materials, they created a poster alluding to "hidden sugar" in food, in which they presented the analyzed foods and their respective packets with the corresponding amount of sugar, duly identified.
Later, in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) classes, students will process the collected data, organizing and analyzing the information in order to interpret the results and better understand the amount of sugar present in the foods they usually consume.
The aim of these activities was to raise students' awareness of the importance of making conscious and responsible food choices, encouraging them to adopt habits that contribute to a balanced and healthy diet.
