Arts and Crafts Project
Last Wednesday, March 25th, the 5th grade class A from Arazede Basic School participated in an enriching activity as part of the "Arts and Crafts" project, promoted by the Intermunicipal Community of the Coimbra Region.
Accepting the challenge, the students chose to explore the traditional art of bread making, one of the characteristic crafts of the municipality of Montemor-o-Velho. This initiative will culminate in an exhibition, to be held in mid-May in Coimbra, where students from various schools in the region will present different local arts and crafts.
To better understand this traditional knowledge, the class visited the Associação das Faíscas, where they were warmly welcomed. This non-profit association dedicates itself weekly to the production of bread, the sale of which benefits its activities.
During the visit, the students had the opportunity to follow the entire bread-making process: from selecting the ingredients and kneading to baking in a wood-fired oven. In addition to observing, the students were also able to "get their hands dirty," actively participating in all stages, including preparing and heating the traditional oven.
At the end of the activity, there was still time to enjoy freshly baked bread, providing a moment of conviviality and sharing. The visit also included the presence of the association's president, who greeted the students and offered them strawberries produced in the region.
Arazede Basic School thanks the Associação das Faíscas for the warm welcome they gave the class, for the knowledge shared, and for the unforgettable experience provided. The students are now continuing to prepare for the final exhibition, where they will present homemade bread, baked in a wood-fired oven, just as it has been done for generations.
