Geometric Faces Works
Art in motion in the Visual Education and Technological Education subjects with the 6th grade classes B, C and D of the Montemor Secondary School.
I work with the 6th grade B and C classes in Visual Arts (Geometric Faces).
Throughout the second term, ongoing, multi-thematic work was carried out with students from classes 6B and 6C, within the scope of the Visual Education subject. In addressing the content related to geometric drawing, students drew precise geometric shapes (triangles, squares, pentagons, etc.) on colored cardstock. In conjunction with this theme, teacher Afonso Paiva decided to explore the drawing of the human face (portrait) and its proportions. Testing these concepts without fear of error, the students created a fictional face using colored pencils. The created faces were cut into 6 parts and mixed by the students, creating new figures with 'strange' and disproportionate faces. With these misshapen faces, the students performed an exercise in geometric simplification, refining the main lines until they arrived at a geometric figure that would serve as a sketch for the next phase of the work. Thus, using sheets of cardboard with previously drawn geometric designs, each student drew inspiration from the simplified face sketch they had made and cut out the paper shapes they needed to compose (through collage) their 'geometric face'. After making the collages, the students created a colorful outline with colored pencils to highlight the collage. Overall, the students were captivated and motivated in carrying out the work.
